Michael de la Pena Obituary

Michael (Mike) Francis de la Pena, husband, father, grandfather, avid boater, football fan, train collector, traveler, and history buff, spread his wings and gracefully left this earth for heaven after ending his battle with cancer on the morning of February 23, 2024.

Mike was born on December 10, 1940, in San Francisco, California to Michael Joseph and Esperanza (Ruelas) de la Pena.  Mike spent his youth in San Francisco and later raised his family in Santa Rosa and spent his retirement in Shingle Springs, CA.

He married the love of his life, Beverly Diane Bilher on January 18, 1964, celebrating 60 years of a loving and committed marriage. Together they raised their 3 children, creating memories boating, camping, attending sporting and school events, traveling and spending time as a family cheering on his favorite sports teams.

Mike was a Lionel train collector and enthusiast, dedicating hours to working on his train layout with the help of his wife and his “train buddies”.  He loved to travel, taking extended European trips with Bev where he enjoyed learning about WWII, experiencing new cultures, food, and meeting people from around the globe.

A dedicated family man, he spent more than 50 years providing for his family as a UA Local 38 member and steamfitter. Mike is survived by his wife Beverly, oldest daughter Pamela, son in law Robert and their children Meghan, Matthew and Mark, his son Michael and his children Jake, Drew and Coast, and his youngest daughter Cindy and her three children Bailey, Jared and Rhyann.

There is a funeral mass scheduled for April 19th at 10:30 am, at St Joseph Marello Catholic Parish. Located at 7200 Folsom Auburn Road, Granite Bay.  A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations are made in Mike’s name to the wonderful people of Snowline Hospice who supported his comfort care over the past 3 months:
